UK: Summer School Scholarships 2010/2011

Summer School scholarships on 'Protecting Human Rights through United Nations Mechanisms'
The Human Rights Law Centre at the University of Nottingham is pleased to announce the 2010 Summer School on ‘Protecting Human Rights through United Nations Mechanisms’.

The Summer School will be held from 28 June – 2 July 2010 (Monday – Friday) and will be led by key experts in the field. The focus throughout will be practical and applied: the Summer School will give participants an insider’s understanding of the mechanisms and will equip them with the tools to best use the UN system for the protection of human rights.

The School will have sessions devoted to the human rights treaty bodies (the reporting and individual communications procedures), the Human Rights Council’s Universal Period Review Procedure, Special Procedures (UN human rights special rapporteurs, etc.), and the work of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and its field presences.

The Summer School is designed to benefit professionals in non-governmental organisations, national human rights institutions, government, international governmental organisations, field operations, and interested academic and students. Further details on the 2010 Summer School, including contact details and names of expert speakers, are contained in the attached brochure. Details can also be found at www.nottingham.ac.uk/hrlc/SummerSchool.

We would like to encourage you to distribute this announcement to your colleagues and other relevant organisations and persons who would find this training useful.

Kind regards,

Toastmasters Surabaya 2008/2009

Info Beasiswa S1 (undergraduate) S2 (master) S3 (doktor, phd) diploma scholarship

Dear friends,

We would pleased to invite you for our Toastmasters regular meeting
that will be held on :

Day/Date : Saturday/22 November 2008
Venue : IEU Campus, Jl Dukuh Kupang 156 B, Surabaya
Time : 15.30 WIB

How Does Toastmasters Work?

This non-profit organization offers a proven – and enjoyable – way to
practice communication and leadership skills.

Here's how it works:
A Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which
participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a friendly
atmosphere. A typical group has 20 to 40 members who meet weekly or
biweekly to practice public speaking techniques. The average meeting
lasts one hour.

Members learn communication skills by working in the Competent
Communication manual, a series of 10 self-paced speaking assignments
designed to instill a basic foundation in public speaking.
Participants learn skills related to use of humor, gestures, eye
contact, speech organization and overall delivery. When finished with
this manual, members can choose from 15 advanced manuals to learn
skills related to specific interests.

Members also learn leadership skills by taking on various meeting
roles and serving as officers at the club and district levels, and by
working in the Competent Leadership manual and the High Performance
Leadership program. In our learn-by-doing approach, we don't lecture
our members about leadership skills; we give them responsibilities
and ask them to lead.

There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members
evaluate one another's presentations. This feedback process is a key
part of the program's success. Meeting participants also give
impromptu talks on assigned topics, conduct meetings, serve as
officers in various leadership roles and learn rules related to
timing, grammar and parliamentary procedure.

Thousands of corporations sponsor in-house Toastmasters clubs.
Businesses and government organizations have discovered that
Toastmasters is an effective, cost-efficient means of meeting their
communication training needs.

Toastmasters groups also can be found in governmental agencies, as
well as in a variety of community organizations, prisons,
universities, hospitals, military bases and churches.

So, friends, don't miss this event!

Regards,
Shinta

what could be improved.

C. SELECTION PROCEDURE

The time scheme below is subject to minor changes.

1 Oct – 15 Oct All applications are checked on their completeness and entered into a database. Incomplete applications will not be processed. Candidates who disqualify during this stage will receive written notice.

15 Oct – 9 Nov A team of readers will assess all applications against the criteria set by the scholarship programme. These criteria focus on the aims of the programme and the ability of the applicant to express his/her commitment on various issues.

Nov Based on the formal StuNed criteria and the above mentioned assessments a list of eligible candidates is presented to the selection committee for final selection. This selection result in a number of selected candidates and a ranked list of reserve candidates from which candidates can be taken to replace those who fail for the interview or who withdraw from the programme for any other reason.

Nov Selected candidates will be notified and will be asked to fulfil the final requirements such as employer statement, SK (for government officials and lecturers), copy of passport, original TOEFL/IELTS score form.

Selected candidates are contacted for an interview at a central location or by telephone. During this interview the English proficiency of the candidate and several of the aspects will be reviewed. Candidates may be interviewed more than once. If the interview(s) leads to the conclusion that a candidate does not meet the StuNed standards, the provisional scholarship will be revoked and another candidate from the reserve list (according to ranking) will be interviewed.

All remaining candidates are informed about the final outcome of their application. Selected candidates are requested to provide physical examination at test. Candidates who accept the scholarship receive a letter via e-mail, conveying extensive information about procedures to be followed-up, the Rules and Regulations, a package with information about the Netherlands, information about the visa procedure and the student insurance.

Dec Awardees will receive their StuNed award letter after all pre departure requirements have been fulfilled.
